High Blood Pressure at Applebee's

Most of the foods served at Applebee's restaurants are high in sodium. Unless you are visiting the restaurant or dining here in the group, there are hardly any options from the main meals if you wish to keep your blood pressure in check. You can rely on a few salad options though. If lucky, you may find low-sodium ribs as well at the restaurant.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Blood Pressure

Avoid Green Goddess Wedge at Applebee's. Broccoli Cheese Soup and French Onion Soup contain over 1000mg sodium and hence must be skipped as well. Skip all the chicken dishes and seafood at Applebee's except Grilled Chicken Breast and Baked Haddock without sides respectively. You must also skip Brunch Burger, Quesadilla Burger, Triple Bacon Burger, and Whiskey Bacon Burger at Applebee's. High sodium intake can be lethal for a high blood pressure candidate. High Cholesterol at Applebee's

Well, steaks and ribs go hand in hand with cholesterol. Being their signature dish, it will be a challenge to find low-calorie, healthy food for those concerned with their cholesterol levels. However, you can always opt for their salads and other light foods to keep the cholesterol in check.

Foods to Avoid at Applebee's for High Cholesterol

If you have high cholesterol, then you must avoid eating sandwiches, wraps, and tacos at Applebee's. While the salads and soups sound healthy, you must skip the Fiesta Chopped Salad and Loaded Potato Soup at Applebee's. It is also advised to dodge the Three Cheese Chicken Penne and Chicken Fajita Rollup. Any main meal with over 100mg cholesterol is not idle for someone with high cholesterol. So, skip those items at Applebee's.

Went here off a wim. It was good, got the 2 for 25 deal. Good stuff, the waiter failed on the drink menus though, no prices either. Well cooked, juicy and tasty!

Half-price appetizers. That is the only reason we visit Applebee's. We enjoy the appetizers and the quiet atmosphere where we can visit. It's pretty slow after 9 pm so we have our corner of the restaurant to ourselves. The servers have been very good in my last two visits. I recommend the staff get a TV in the back, it does not look well to have them standing in the bar looking at the TV. Keep up the 1/2 price apps and I'll keep coming.

This Applebee's restaurant was recently remodeled with a local, Utah theme and features photos and decor from local sports teams. Applebee's would never be much first choice for dinner but my wife received an Applebee's gift card so we decided to go spend it. She ordered the cedar plank salmon and said it was pretty good under a little under seasoned. With the addition of some salt and pepper she said it was greatly improved. For my meal I had the four cheese macaroni and cheese with bacon and chicken strips. My dish was okay but overall not that great. Some of the flavors were good, but the macaroni was swimming in a very thin cheese sauce and the chicken was overcooked and much too crispy. Overall the meal was fine, nothing fantastic but not terrible either. Service was okay, again not fantastic but also not terrible. I don't see myself going back anytime soon unless we happen to get another gift card.

Yet another restaurant that is hit or miss. Love the food, when it's hot. Last time I was there the server was good, the bun on the hamburger was NOT, it was hard and smelled stale. By the time the manager made his way over to ask if everything was good, which is a requirement for them, I had eaten the inside of the burger and left the bun, he said he could remake it but didn't seem to really care and was not sincere about remaking it. I found it pointless because I had already eaten what I wanted of it. The reason the manager is required to come to our table is to make sure we are happy and I guess if they don't, then your meal is free...I wish they actually cared if we were happy because just because they come to the table doesn't mean they really care. The point is to show they care, but they don't.

Food was bland and cold for 3 out of 4 adults. Horrible managing..... Ordered a medium rare steak and it came out "WELL"..Ordered a beer and showed I.D. next thing I know the manager came over and asked 20 questions. From do I work for the state alcohol board to have I had a beer prior to 10:30 am to have I ever been order by the court not to order alcohol from an establishment. That`s bullshit. I`ll never go their if I wish to have a Adult cocktail and its called a Bar @ Grill. What a joke. Waitress had to come back 3 times to get correct order right... I can`t believe the Manager who grilled me like"TSA" was standing at the bar watching Hockey and never moved for 30 minutes while i`m getting cold food.

I was impressed with the food and service! I took my sister to lunch and thought we might have to wait for a table or booth and our meals. But everything was great! My sister liked her Asian chicken salad and turkey sandwich; my four cheese macaroni with honey pepper crusted chicken and French onion soup with a garlic breadstick were good. Our waiter Mark told us about the specials as soon as we were seated and remembered our drink preferences and selections. The manager stopped by to ask about our experience.

Every time we come here I leave feeling "meh." We came tonight only because we had a gift card and we will only come back if someone else gives us a gift card. We did the 2/$25. We did like that we got eight mozzarella sticks for our shared appetizer. We both got the four-cheese Mac and cheese and is was a very odd combination of flavors. It came with sweet chipotle chicken tenders and the sweet with the cheese was kind of gross.

I would be too kind by giving it any more stars, the food was decent tho, the service very good, friendly and pleasant attitudes then, and I'll add I'm not from here, I'm out of state so don't take this as a bash on a certain race, gender or religion - I enjoy cocktails with dinner, usually single and alone so I sit a the bar, I ordered a Martini - the pleasant host brings back half or less of (about 1.5 to 2 oz) premium vodka ... I asked, and she told me that the church doesn't like drinking and has strict laws in place to ensure we do not have our freedoms with alcohol - I said well, then keep'em coming until I get what I feel is a whole drink - she says I cant do that..... I said this is what happens when we allow church and state to be bedfellows, exactly what our founding fathers fought and died protecting, altho she agreed, I got 4.5 ounces of premium vodka for $21.00 - which is why I should give it 2 stars, for ripping off the public .. mafioso style, another anti-American, cult based freedom abolishment - do not spend any more money in this state than it takes to leave this beautiful place behind you, I still love Applebee's tho ....

We have tried this Applebee's many times. Fact is, it's close to us! But we not one time have had good service or food here! Don't bother with this place! You will be better served at the Burger King with the scary characters next door or the subway on the other side with the multi colored hair and piercings all over their face!!! Sorry Applebee's! Chili's you are not! Especially this location!!! Plus side, beer was cold!!!

I had the 2 for 20$ shared with my sister. Our server was really funny. He kept bringing us stuff that we didn't ask. Saying he was going out of his ways, which was awesome. The manager accomendated to my needs. No extra charge, since I had to send back spanish rice because it was usually hard. The server we had also brought us complimentary dessert :) He gave me a huge to-go cup because he knew we just got into town lol. Would go back.

I looked at the reviews here and it's obvious this place improved since 2011. New management? Maybe. Hubby and I came here yesterday for the Veterans Day special. They do a free lunch to the vets each veterans day, and I give it two stars for that alone. The manager walked around a few times to the tables, thanking the Vets for their service to their country and giving them a "bounce back" voucher for another free meal. How cool is that? Hubby was in the Navy so he appreciated it. The vets menu is limited to about 6 items and he chose the Oriental Chicken Salad, which he thought was good. Chicken was tender and juicy, greens crisp. I had the Roast Beef, Bacon and Mushroom sandwich. It was yummy!! The meat was tender, tasty and had no fat/gristle you sometimes get with a roast beef sandwich. Had melted swiss and cooked red onions on it too. Came with fries that were hot, fresh and crispy. Hubby had the hot fudge sundae dessert shooter. Just the right size! Good food, great service and attentive management. Minus one star for the restroom floor being a bit dirty, but overall very good!!!

I had an awful experience here. took forever to get sat, the menus were sticky, the seats had food on them, the blinds were falling off the windows, the flavored tea had WAY too much syrup in it. The only reason i even went was because my work had given me a gift card and even then i had second thoughts.

The ONLY reason I went here was that I received a gift card for Christmas. I highly recommend that if you have a gift card you re-gift it or give it as a white elephant. Why is it that the pictures on the menu never come close to what the server brings out? I had the French onion soup and a classic BLT and it was just plain nasty. I could not finish the soup cuz the so called cheese turned into a messy glop of who knows what? Daughter wanted Mac and cheese and was served an overpriced bowl of Kraft brand or maybe it was from DollarTree. Unacceptable!! These kind of establishments have had their day and they just need to put a period at the end and close shop. I will admit the server was very nice and accommodating but I feel sorry for anyone that has to bring this food to the table. Why my "friend" would give me a card to Applebee's, I'll never know. I guess I really pissed them off last year!

We've struggled to have a good experience at Applebee's, and especially at this location. Over the past several years we've had dinner here several times, and every time there were issues with the food. The service was usually good. Recently we took our son to Applebee's for his birthday dinner because that's where he asked to go. He had the quesadilla burger, which thankfully was prepared as he'd requested and he enjoyed it. On the other hand, the food brought to my wife and I was less than expected, a lot less. We'd both treated ourselves to something we'd hoped would be special. She ordered a steak, (medium well) and I ordered the fish and chips. By the way, in case you're unaware, it's very difficult to get some substitutions at Applebee's. Rather than having the daily vegetable, my wife asked if she could change it to a dinner salad, (which is very easy to do at Chili's, Wingers, Sizzler, and many other places even though it's usually $1 to do so, which is fine). The server said that he could add a salad, but that was all. She then asked if she could just get double potatoes and the server said he could do that. When the steak came the "double potato" servings were a laughable, it quite literally was two small size red potatoes cut into 6 pieces each. She asked why the potato portions were so small and was told that everything off the 550-calorie menu was that size. She reminded the server that she hadn't ordered off the 550-calorie menu but he insisted that she had and left it at that. A server brought my fish and chips, (not our original server) and before I could even say something, he noticed that two of the three pieces of fish were so overdone that they were black in areas. He said that he was going to "have them drop a couple more" and them bring them to me when they were cooked properly. I thanked him and he left. Moments later our original server returned to the table and said that he'd asked his manager about the fish. The manager told him "that's how their fish and chips looked when they were cooked properly." I asked him to please send the manager to our table to I could show him the fish and talk with him. A few minutes later the manager came to the table and I pointed out the issue. He told me that was how their fish looked when it was cooked properly. I pointed out that there was one lighter colored filet, one that was darker, and one that was burned, in my opinion, and I asked him to please tell me why if the dark ones were cooked properly then why was one lighter (like the menu picture and every other fish filet I've ever eaten). I had taken a bite of the lighter one and it was hot and thoroughly cooked, but not burned. The manager had no explanation, but at about this same time my wife cut into her steak (the one she ordered medium-well) and found that it was actually medium-rare. She pointed this and the potato issue out to the manager and rather than offering to bring her what she asked for, he too insisted that this was from the 550 calorie menu. She told him that may be true, but that she had not ordered off the 550-calorie menu and asked that he take the food and remove the item from our bill. The manager then turned back to me and again said that this was how they cooked their fish and chips and that there was nothing he could do for me regarding that. I then told him that it was something that I could not eat and asked him to take it away and remove it from our bill. The manager removed both of these poorly prepared meals from our bill, and he also gave us a coupon for two complimentary entrée's on a future visit. Although that was appreciated, considering the three previous similar problems at this location, this turned into the visit that broke the camel's back. We knew we would not be returning so we gave the coupon to our son in the hopes that he might be able to return there for a better experience. As you can see from previous reviews, I take the time to review good experiences as well as bad. For whatever reason, Applebee's seems to have a difficult time getting things right, and in this case, making things right. A coupon for free food is nice, but not as nice as the manager just fixing the issues with the food in the first place. As a side note, I found it interesting that a server clearly saw something wrong with the plate of food he was serving, but the manager did not. *NOTE* I did upload a photo of the Fish-N-Chips I mentioned above. It's under my profile and recent activity area. P.S. I've had fish and chips at two other restaurants (Sizzler and Virg's) since this incident, and they were both great. They weren't burned, and they tasted wonderful.

Everybody has got to be hating on the Applebees but what do you expect? This is your generic restaurant chain in every way imaginable. Along with your steak and shrimp you can get mozzarella sticks, Jalapeño Poppers, and blooming onion. I think of it as the boring place to go if you can't get reservations anywhere else or can't be assed to put in the effort to go anywhere else. The food is pretty average, better than Skippers or Village Inn but boring in comparison to most else. One thing that bothers me is that it's still overpriced. But I think they're just caching in on the young families and highschool dates that still think this place is high end on their own personal dining scale. Interestingly enough I know that this particular Applebees on Redwood is an "experimental" franchise where they try out new menu items before rolling it out to others so if you goto Applebees alot you may get something new here (or something you like may disappear off the menu if it doesn't catch on). Bottom line: This place isn't as bad as people make it out to be, it's just an easy "whipping boy" for foodies to make fun of (believe me there are places WAYYYYY worse than this). Still, unless you're pressed for time you're better off making a reservation someplace else.

This is the closest restaurant to where I live and because of their late night hours and my work schedule I eat here more often than I would like... they do have a good caesar salad which is a weakness of mine and their nachos are decent. It is also good place for adult beverages and watching sports. If convenience wasn't a factor I'm not sure I would even visit annually.

This place is fine for what it is. Given all the other reviews here, I was hesitant to try it, but came for the under 550 calorie menu. My Signature Sirloin with Garlic Herb Shrimp was cooked medium like I asked, and was tender enough and flavorful...not bad at all for $13. The 3 item appetizer was good (I know, defeats the purpose of the low cal dinner, but my coworker ordered it and I couldn't resist sampling it). The beer was cold. The waitress was attentive and the manager was walking around as well. My coworker was less than thrilled with his quesadilla burger, he said it was okay but the patty was sort of Mexican style and too spicy for his taste. Overall, if you normally like Applebees, Chilis, TGIFridays, etc., this place shouldn't disappoint...with a great selection of lower calorie and low Weight Watcher Point entrees. (And yes, I'm talking about the 5678 S Redwood location...in town for training at SLCC.)

This was one of the worst experiences I have had with a waitor EVER. My 76 year old father and me went because he had a gift card he wanted to use. We were led to a booth and the waitor did bring our drink order quickly and take the food order. My dad noticed the table felt sticky and was rubbing the straw wrapper on the table then turned the wrapper over and noticed it was black. He asked me if it was dirt and I said I didn't know. Then I said its probably just one spot so I took my napkin and rubbed my side of the table and turned it over and again there was the impression of my fingers in dirt on the napkin. My dad waved the waitor over and showed him our dirty evidence. He crumbled up the napkin and staw wrapper and at first was nice. He insisted it was clean but he could send someone over to wipe it down. My dad mentioned again it felt sticky and just wasn't clean. The waitor said it is clean sir, we sanitize them once a day. He started to walk away but then called back maybe your hand is dirty. That's when I got really mad. First of all he called that back to us from the side of another table. I said oh my god and asked my dad if he wanted to go cause 2 sips of my diet coke and all the attitude I can handle from one server was enough for me. My dad said yes and I think at this point we would have been content to leave for a place with better service but the waitor had the biggest grin on his face and said good bye then. So my dad asked to talk to his manager. The manager still seemed to have a better idea of customer service. When we should him the sticky table he said it actually looked like the farnish was coming off and we could move if we like and when I looked more closely there were tiny holes in the clear farnish but because the peeling farnish was sticky it was trapping dirt and in the little holes you could see they were outlined with dirt. I said his waiter with the smart comments was also a turn off and I can't stay to be served by him. The manager promised to put us with a better server and my dad made him promise to keep the waitor a 100 miles away from our food because he's the type that would spit in it. It was still a very awkward meal because that waitor smirked at us the whole time. I really had to resist the urge to dump my drink on him as we were walked by him to be moved to another section. The manager did comp our desserts and said he paid for half our meal and he promised he would talk to the waitor later. I only half believed him. I get the feeling they are buddy's and were laughing at us in the back. I mainly feel like that because why wouldn't he talk to the waitor right away, why didn't he tell the waitor then to change his attitude around us or to stop smirking at us? The waitor obviously didn't feel like he was doing anything wrong and the manger seemed to be trying to appease us but also seemed to be backing the waitor up. I am some one who even tips bad waiters 50 percent sometimes because I think people work hard for their money and everyone has a bad day and I was a waitress once so I understand it can be demanding and I want to restore their faith and remind them why they should be good servers even for demanding people because you never know who might be that really good tipper so treat every one like potential best tippers. It takes a lot for me to complain and my dad was even surprised that I spoke up but that was the most ridiculous thing that's ever happened and the manager salvaged that experience but I can't imagine going back just because there's a chance I might get the same server.

About Applebee's

Applebee is an American full-service restaurant brand popularly known for its signature Riblets. Applebee was conceptualized in 1980 by Bill and TJ Palmer in Atlanta, Georgia. At first, the restaurant was named T.J. Applebee's RX for Edibles and Elixirs. After the concept was acquired by W.R. Grace and Company, the restaurant was renamed as Applebee's Neighborhood Grill & Bar. Later the company and the Applebee's concept changed hands with Abe Gustin and John Hamra who started the first Applebee's franchise restaurant in Kansas City.

Later in 2007, IHOP Corp. now known as DineEquity, Inc. acquired Applebee's and began their journey together to make Applebee's the world's largest full-service restaurant chain. Today, Applebee's serves at more than 1,830 locations worldwide. The Applebee's menu ranges from Appetizers and Salads to heavy meals consisting of ribs and steak.
